The giant of the maritime transport Maersk shoots its profit up to 5,459 million, nine times more. The result benefited from “extraordinary circumstances” due to the pandemic. The company’s turnover amounted to 22,527 million euros.

Denmark’s AP Møller-Mærsk, the world’s leading maritime freight transport operator, earned a net $ 6.463 billion (€ 5.459 billion) in the first half of 2021, nine times more than a year earlier.

The result was benefited by “extraordinary circumstances” in the form of a continuous rise in freight rates due to congestion and supply difficulties created by the pandemic, the owner of Maersk Line, the world’s leading container shipping company, said in her report.

The net operating profit (ebit) was multiplied by six to 7,181 million dollars (6,066 million euros). The turnover amounted to 26,669 million dollars (22,527 million euros), which represents a year-on-year increase of 44%.

In the second quarter, AP Møller-Mærsk earned a net $ 3.746 billion (€ 3.164 billion), eight times more, the twelfth quarter followed with a year-on-year increase in earnings. The ebit was 4,084 million dollars (3,450 million euros), five times higher. The turnover amounted to 14,230 million dollars (12,020 million euros), a 60% better.

The Danish group’s shares rose just over 1% minutes after the opening of the session on Friday on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
